About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Working in group therapy can help us work through lifes more complex problems and situations that can often leave us feeling isolated and disconnected. Therapeutic groups can bring into the foreground emotional experiences which emerge in the context of all groups.

Groups can be a powerful therapeutic medium that focuses on the relationship between the individual and the group, emphasising the essential social nature of human experience and helping us to understand how we experience other people and how they experience us.

Group therapy offers a safe, confidential and supportive space for you to share whatever is on your mind without shame or judgement and the chance to practice being in connection with others.

The group is facilitated by UKCP registered existential analytic psychotherapist Helen Sproat and will be in English.

This weekly therapeutic group will run for 90 minutes each week for 12 weeks with fixed group of 10 people.

Each participant books a 12-week block, which allows the group to become a holding and healing space.

This group is scheduled to meet on the following dates in 2024:

  • Week 1: Wednesday 18th September: 18:30-20:00 GMT
  • Week 2: Wednesday 25th September: 18:30-20:00 GMT

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Benefits include peer support, diverse perspectives, improved social skills, a sense of community, and learning from others’ experiences.

What issues are addressed in group therapy?

Groups can focus on a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, trauma, relationship problems, stress management, and personal growth.

What is group therapy good for?

Groups can be ideal if you have experienced things in live that have lead to shame, shyness, isolation and disconnection.

Is what I share in group therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a core principle of group therapy. All members must agree to keep what is shared within the group private.

What if I'm uncomfortable sharing in a group?

It's natural to feel hesitant at first. Group therapy allows members to participate at their own pace and encourages gradual sharing as comfort levels increase.

How do I know if group therapy is right for me?

Group therapy can be beneficial if you’re seeking peer support and want to learn to share things with others. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this further and see if it is a good fit.

What happens if I miss a session?

Whilst it's encouraged to attend all sessions sometimes it's not possible but whether you are there or not you will still be part of the group.

How is group therapy different from individual therapy?

Group therapy involves sharing and learning in a group setting, providing peer support and multiple perspectives. Individual therapy focuses solely on the individual’s issues with one-on-one attention. Group therapy can be a good complementary process to individual psychotherapy.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for group therapy?

Typically, no special preparation is needed. It’s helpful to come with an open mind and a willingness to participate and respect others.

What if there is a conflict in the group?

Facilitators are trained to manage conflicts and ensure a respectful and safe environment. Conflicts are addressed constructively as part of the group's process.
