About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join The Explorers Club Portugal Chapter and Dr. Jessica Studer for "Life on White Mars", an exclusive look into life, research, and the challenges faced at Antarctica's Concordia Station, one of the most remote and extreme environments on Earth. With temperatures dropping to –80°C and four months of complete darkness each year, the crew must survive without external aid during the harsh winter.

Dr. Studer, a medical doctor and biomedical researcher for the European Space Agency (ESA), is conducting groundbreaking research on human health and performance in these extreme conditions, offering insights that parallel the challenges faced by astronauts in space. She is currently spending a year in Antarctica as ESA’s research medical doctor, contributing to one of the largest analog missions on Earth.

Don't miss this rare opportunity for a live tour of the Concordia Station!

Organized by

Founded in New York City in 1904, by a group of leading explorers, The Explorers Club is a multidisciplinary, professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research, scientific exploration and resource conservation.

The Club’s members have been responsible for an illustrious series of famous firsts: First to the North Pole, first to the South Pole, first to the summit of Mount Everest, first to the deepest point in the ocean, first to the surface of the moon — all accomplished by our members.

The Portugal Chapter was established in 2024 with the goal of creating a modern base of operations for staging inclusive and innovative scientific expeditions in the country and beyond. We hold monthly talks, educational events and organize field trips and expeditions.
